Welcome to Our Village
Welcome to Historic New Castle, Delaware!
New Castle is a living town where history matters. In this charming village on the Delaware River, you can visit more than three centuries of American history. Lose yourself for an afternoon, a weekend or longer in the first capital of the First State, where the alleys echo and the cobblestones ring with the determined footsteps of generations past. Come and enjoy our riverfront park with its flowering trees, winding paths, benches, and picnic tables.
Stop in to our museums and step back in time to the very beginning of our country. Wander down our cobblestone streets and enjoy our colonial architecture. Browse our quaint shops.
Visit churches that were founded more than 300 years ago and still toll their bells today. Situated across a cobblestone street from our Green, is New Castle Presbyterian Church, founded in 1657. Sitting right on the Green, is Immanuel Episcopal Church. Founded in 1689, Immanuel is one of the oldest Episcopal churches in the United States. Poke around her graveyard and you’ll find a number of Revolutionary War veterans buried there and a signer of the Declaration of Independence as well as an epitaph by Benjamin Franklin.
At the end of the day (or anytime in between) enjoy our fine restaurants where delicious food and great music come together.
Depending on when you stop in, you’ll find a full range of family and cultural activities.
